🟢 No more plastic problems (Plastic news)

plastic news
Boyan Slat, a 19-year-old genius, has been developing a unique solution to get rid of plastic that has infested our oceans. At such a tender age he has already come up with a brilliant idea to use natural currents of the ocean to collect the garbage and later recycle it. Plastic is one of those things that has become an inseparable part of our lives, yet it is also true that it has caused one of the biggest environmental issues of modern days.
Boyan Slat’s ‘Ocean Cleanup’ offers a feasible solution to this problem and requires $43 million per year. While this sum of money can seem overwhelming, it is much cheaper than any other project dealing with plastic.

🟢 Eco concrete levelling

eco concrete levelling
Eco-concrete is one of those technologies that has the power to transform our lives completely. This new type of concrete combines practicality, strength and air-purification. Air-pollution is one of the biggest problems people experience in big cities, making eco-concrete a modern day savior. It devours all kinds of pollution and eats smog by transforming harmful nitrogen oxide into nitrogenous compounds that aren’t so dangerous.
Holland was the first country to install this concrete and the results were impressive: eco-concrete eliminated over 45% of gases. Although this new type of concrete could do wonders for dozens of big cities, it is still too expensive for mass-production.
🟢 Cool pavement

cool pavement phoenix
We’ve all noticed that during summer big cities become much hotter than the suburbs. Dark pavement is to blame for those extreme temperatures – it absorbs sunlight and heats up the city. The usual pavement can heat up to 150°F, while the new Cool Pavement has the ability to reduce this temperature by 40°F. This could hugely reduce the overall temperature in cities during hot summer months.
Just imagine what this technology could do in the cities where the climate is hot already! Researchers are trying to come with ideas to make the existing pavement more reflective (and less heat-absorbing) by either changing its color or applying special reflective coating. At Berkley they are also figuring out a recipe for a completely new type of pavement made with light reflective materials. Share this with your FB friends and spread the word about these cool inventions!

🟢 Reusable rockets

reusable rocket boosters
The era of space-exploration has begun dozens of years ago and the humanity isn’t planning on stopping anytime soon. Needless to say, the production of rockets is not only expensive, but it also requires quite a lot of natural and human resources. Elon Musk’s SpaceX has been working on creating reusable rockets that would cost 100 less and would become perfect vehicles for multiple trips to space.
After a series of unfortunate tests, SpaceX has managed to successfully land more than a few rockets after launch. This year Musk went even further and launched one of those rockets – Falcon 9 – back into space for the second time. And he succeeded! The era of reusable rockets is upon us and we are about to make even greater discoveries about the Universe.
🟢 Cheaper green vehicles (electric vehicles etf)

Another way to lessen our harmful impact on the environment is to produce more eco-friendly cars. Tesla has engineered its vehicles to be both powerful and gorgeous-looking, but one problem remains unsolved – they are still too pricey for most people as Tesla Model S costs around $70,000! Right now the company has started selling used electric cars for half the price, which will help in popularizing electric vehicles.
In order to improve the green car technology, Tesla granted free access to its patents. It has done some good and definitely boosted the innovation surrounding the eco-friendly tech – BMW has already come up with electric cars that cost $30,000 cheaper than Tesla’s.

🟢 Vertical farming etf

vertical farming etf
We may soon find ourselves growing crops not outside in the sun, but indoors, without using soil and usual agricultural techniques. Vertical farming has been all over various sci-fi movies for decades, and now it’s finally time to try it out in real life. It uses hydroponics (no soil, only nutrient-rich water solution) to grow crops stacked upon each other using only artificial light. The whole idea may not sound so ‘yummy’, but the truth is, crops grow much more quickly this way. With the growing population of Earth, it would be only logical to develop alternative agricultural methods.
Vertical farms can produce 100 more crops than those using fields! Urban Crops is one of the many companies that are currently developing vertical farming. They use LEDs to provide the plants with light and special hardware that supplies each plant with the necessary nutrients. Let your Facebook friends know about this invention right now!
🟢 Energy harvesting concrete

power concrete lifting
Everyone is trying to make better use of concrete these days, and Laurence Kemball-Cook is not an exception. He came up with the idea to use modified concrete tiles to harvest energy from simple steps. His Pavegen tiles can convert the energy of a footstep into enough electricity to power up vending machines or street lamps.
Of course, this kinetic energy isn’t powerful enough to supply energy to something bigger than that, but it is a good start. Pavegen showed incredible results when special tiles were installed near the finish line at the Paris Marathon. They generated more than 4.7 kilowatt-hours of energy that could be used for about anything! While the tiles themselves are truly amazing, installing them isn’t as easy as one would hope.

🟢 Hyperloop one

hyperloop one
This is one of those cool technologies that will completely transform the world we live in. Elon Musk, the dreamer behind SpaceX and Tesla electric vehicles, has come up with another crazy idea – Hyperloop. This new transportation system will be able to get people from LA to San Francisco in less than 35 minutes!
A low pressure tube will be used to accelerate capsules carrying passenger at the speed of around 700 mph. Special electric compressor fans will stabilize the capsules while they travel through the tube. The tube itself will be completely self-sustainable and won’t disrupt the surrounding nature (at least, not more than a telephone pole). Solar panels installed on top of the tube will supply all the necessary energy.

🟢 Phoenix Towers

Two self-sustaining Chinese towers will soon steal the title of the world’s tallest tower from the famous Burj Khalifa in Saudi Arabia. The city of Wuhan, China, is about to become home to two amazing eco-towers that will clean the surrounding air and water.
Inside they will be equipped with filters that will clean the water coming from the nearby lake. Solar panels, hydrogen fuel cells and wind turbines will provide all the needed energy, while vertical gardens and pollution absorbing coating will help clear the air of the city. The tower will also generate some extra energy for the needs of Wuhan.

🟢 Tianjin

tianjin foreign studies university
While most of the latest green technologies focus on improving the living conditions in already existing cities, China isn’t afraid to dream big and go further than anyone has ever gone before. A new green city – Tianjin – is being built from scratch as we speak.
This eco-friendly residency will stretch for over 30 km and will be able to accommodate up to 350,000 residents. Tianjin complex will use wastewater recycling, seawater desalination as well as wind and solar technologies to power the entire system. 90% of traffic will be public transportation, which means carbon emissions will be close to none. The city will consist of 7 districts, each using its own power source and sustainability theme.
